Itinerary

Day 1 - Your vacation begins in Vancouver

Your flight arrives in Vancouver today. As Canada's third largest city, this destination is steeped in arts, culture and fantastic amenities at every turn. On arrival, you are transferred to your hotel to check in.

The Fairmont Hotel is in the heart of Downtown, set amongst high-end boutiques and impressive art galleries. Known as the 'Castle in the City' due to its châteauesque copper pitched roof, the Hotel Vancouver was built in 1939 as one of Canada's grand railway hotels. With the rest of the day, you could unwind or start exploring your new surroundings.

Day 2 - Vancouver sightseeing

A private guided tour of Vancouver awaits you today. Stanley Park is a chance to enjoy stunning views of nature and its colorful totem poles which celebrate local Native American history. In the neighborhood of Gastown, wander the cobblestone streets seeing redbrick Victorian buildings and upmarket boutiques.

You also discover Granville Island, the historic Lions Gate Bridge, the picturesque Cyprus Mountain viewpoint and much more. After the tour, you could continue exploring independently.

Day 3 - Boarding The Canadian train to Toronto

This morning, there is time to revisit your favorite sites throughout Vancouver or walk along one of the many trails throughout the city. Later, your included private transfer takes you to Vancouver's train station. Boarding VIA Rail's Canadian, settle into your onboard accommodation in Prestige Class, which lets you enjoy the passing vistas from extra-large picture windows or from any of the lounges on the train. Your personal concierge is there to ensure your comfort on this eastbound journey.

Includes
  • Dinner
Day 4 - Travelling through the Rockies

This morning, you wake up to the rugged scenery of the Canadian Rockies passing by your window. Jasper National Park is a wildlife sanctuary, so you can look out for one of the many species of mammals that live within the park and often wander within view of the tracks.

After breakfast in the Dining Car, you could explore the amenities aboard the train. You have access to all of the lounges on the train, as well as to the Skyline Car - an exclusive entertainment center with an observation dome offering 360-degree views - and the Park Car, with three different salons and an upper observation deck.

Day 5 - En Route to Toronto

As the train approaches Saskatchewan today, take in the beautiful, changing scenery at the mid-point of your rail journey. Quaint mountain towns combine with rural scenery, making for relaxing vistas. Day 7 - Arrival in Toronto

You leave the wide-open spaces of rural Canada behind as the train makes its way toward Toronto. Toronto's Union Station is Canada's largest and most elegant train station. Its Great Hall looks like a temple to the railroad, while its limestone exterior is dominated by 22 Romanesque columns.

On arrival, you transfer independently to your centrally located hotel. You can spend the afternoon getting acquainted with this town located on beautiful Lake Ontario.

  • Breakfast
Day 8 - Exploring Toronto

A guided tour of Toronto showcases its famous landmarks today. You learn about world-renowned museums and attractions, dynamic neighborhoods, and magnificent architecture. THis trip was pretty much what we had expected. Lots of good food, drink, and meeting new people. Our prestige room was, again, as expected--fine for lounging, watching TV, looking out the window, etc. The bed, as expected, was kind of small, but do-able. Just a little bit firm for my liking, but many on the train said it was fine. The staff was SUPERIOR, especially the first crew that got on at Vancouver. The food was exceptional, and the bar car and park-view car were very enjoyable. A good trip for us!

The service on this rail experience is top notch. Our concierges were outstanding: Rachel, Claire, and Chantal. Our dining room manger, Daniel, was excellent. So efficient. All the dining room attendants were so friendly and helpful. The dining room was very attractive and inviting.

From the concierge service taking our bags at the train station, to the extraordinary food and service in the dining car, to the perfect attention by staff throughout our journey, this was a spectacular trip. And did I mention that the scenery was continuously breathtaking?

All of the transfers arranged by Vacations by Rail worked flawlessly. No stress there. The train trip itself was as promised, beautiful views out our picture window, very good food and very pleasant and accommodating staff, with one exception. The dining car manager, who had originally agreed that we could have a table for two, when we arrived for the first lunch seating said she couldn't accommodate us - she was too full. Since all of the literature about Prestige Class says you are entitled to room service dining, and since COVID is definitely not over and the usual seating in the dining room is four to a table we had no intention of sitting across the table from two strangers. We had, however, agreed to try the dining room as long as we had our own table. The dining room manager told Sunny, our cabin attendant, that she could accommodate us, so we told Sunny we would try it out. Unpleasant experience when we arrived for lunch, so we left and had room service for the rest of the trip.

Excellent way to travel by train. Porters, stewards and servers were professional, knowledgeable and super friendly. Only hiccup was our arrival in Toronto....no assistance with luggage or navigating the maze of the train station.
