We arrived at Vancouver train station about 90 min before scheduled departure at 3 pm and after waiting in line at the ticket counter were told that train service to Jasper had been cancelled at 9 am that day because of the forest fires. The next train would be the following week. I was told by the VIA agent that there was a Vacations by Rail representative “upstairs” and he said that he would pass my information along later. He seemed genuinely concerned but could offer no other help. I then had to scramble to find a hotel for the night and a flight home. We should have had more notice and the Vacations by Rail rep should have been out front at the train station counter to help their customers find solutions. Instead we were on our own. Bottom line we went home and missed out on our vacation. Natural disasters happen and I accept that, but the sign of great businesses is how they respond and help their customers. VIA and Vacations by Rail failed miserably. Too little, too late. Telephone with them is hopeless. Every time a different person and they never seem to know what is going on. There should be one point of contact only not a general office number for existing customers. As a Coda to this about 4 weeks after the end of the trip we did get a voucher for travel in 2024. Hoping for a better outcome.

Even though there was a slight mis-cue at the beginning, the overall product was worth the effect and cost. We enjoyed both the rail trip and the stays at Vancouver and Jasper, they were all top ranked in anyone's book. Staff was highly supportive at all venues.

Holy cow! Why the heck can't Amtrak provide service like this? Gourmet meals... Down comforters... Turn-down service with a mint on the pillow... Complimentary champagne and hors d'oeuvres when boarding... The train was like a five-star hotel on wheels! Truly a wonderful experience and a vacation we'll never forget!

A very organized and reliable itinerary. Prompt and full service answers to questions before and during the trip. Via Rail is very service oriented and each person and hotel/transportation vendor Vacations By Rail used for our trip demonstrated a happy, helpful and friendly attitude.

The train trip itself was great. We lucked out and got a larger cabin for a portion of the trip which was a bonus that was well worth it. The food was good as was the cabin service. It would be a help to let people know that they should check in at the lounge in Toronto before going directly to the platform. There was nothing to advise us of that fact. The hotels booked for our stay overs were really nice and we appreciated the comfort at the end of our long days of touring the cities we stayed in.
